Greg
Freed
Greg Freed graduated from Baylor University in May 2005 with a new and unusual degree: a Bachelor of Arts in Great Texts of the Western Tradition. He was the first of his kind, and his education provided the driving forces behind the formation of his career, including a desire to prove the power and utility of philosophy and literature. Even more basic than his pride, Greg’s passion for reading dense tomes and understanding matters of weight drives him onward into the publishing industry.
Greg’s love of literature was, of course, founded by his parents. He started with Robert Heinlein and Orson Scott Card, among others, and he believes that his love of classics was founded in his father’s cheap paperback collections. In high school, he was introduced to Plato through Mrs. McIntyre’s World of Ideas course and never looked back.
His collegiate education, by means of both the Great Texts departments and the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, consisted of reading a veritable ton of pages per night per course. Already having a working knowledge of Greek and Latin at this point, Greg focused on learning the foundational logic of philosophy. Along the way he also bumped into philology, linguistics, and writing of several different flavors. As a matter of course, he has an aptitude for sci-fi and fantasy, and he strongly wants to continue interacting with works of philosophy; he is also intrigued by children’s literature, and would love to work on any fairy tales that are available.
Greg is also conversant with all types of fiction including mysteries, thrillers, romances, westerns, etc. and nonfiction such as religious texts, how-to books, history, biographies, and more.
