Increase Your Chances Of Getting Published

Publishers Aren't Looking For Raw Talent

When your manuscript crosses his desk, the publisher wants to see a completed work, refined and ready to print as is. He counts on the discretion of trusted literary agents to present work that's a right fit for his niche.

Literary Agents Aren't Editors

Like the publisher, the literary agent wants to see a finished work. The story must be engaging, free of spelling or grammatical errors, or he won't bother to read past the first few pages.

A-1 Editing Service, Provides The "Edge" You Need.

Choosing the right service to edit your novel will increase your chances of getting published. A properly-edited manuscript is more likely to attract an established literary agent, one whose opinion the publishing industry trusts.

Choose A-1 Editing Service, to edit your novel and receive personalized service and ongoing support long after the editing is completed. Our experienced editors know what agents and publishers are looking for. Many are published authors themselves. Our goal is the same as yours - to see your work in print.

Why do I need an editor? Can't I just send my manuscript to an agent or publisher as is?

Yes, of course. However, fewer publishing houses are hiring in-house editors due to budget constraints, although some still do, and because of the number of manuscripts they receive, agents represent only those manuscripts they feel worthy of consideration. This is why you need the services of a professional editor. We know you want us to make your manuscript the best that it can be. We can accomplish this by focusing on all aspects needing attention as noted in the What We Do Guide. We will point out problem areas and suggest how to remedy them. Contact us now and request our What We Do Guide to see for yourself what we can do for you and we will email it to you.

Will you guarantee that I will be represented and/or published if you edit my work?

It would be untrue and unethical for us to offer such a guarantee. We do promise, however, that we will get your manuscript in such a shape that it will hopefully attract the eye of an agent or publisher if you follow our suggestions. What will the cost be and how long will the editing take?

Click here to request our comprehensive What We Do Guide to obtain detailed information about us, what we do and don't do, fees for hard-copy and electronic editing, what the fees include, turnaround time, and just about anything you wish to know about us. While we are not the cheapest in the industry, we are not the most expensive either. We promise that for your fee, you will receive excellent and personalized service, plus ongoing support with any questions you may have after the editing is completed.

What are your specialties?

We edit most types of fiction and nonfiction, except poetry, with emphasis on the former, which represents about 98% of our workload. First-time, novice, and even experienced authors all require help. We're here to do just that and offer assistance on how you can become a better writer.

How do I know A-1 Editing Service is qualified to handle my work?

Our references and clients' comments speak for themselves. Read our Editors' Bios, our References, and our Clients' Comments pages. And note under FLASH that two of our clients are represented by prominent publishing firms. You, too, can join their ranks.

Why should I choose A-1 Editing Service?

We have been in the editing business for almost a decade. You have at your disposal the expertise of published authors and experienced editors who know what agents and publishers are looking for. Your business is important to us - our goal, after all, is the same: to see your work in print.

Prospective Editors:

We are currently seeking resumes for fiction editors for upcoming openings. Ideal candidates would have at least two years experience working as a full-service editor with fiction and non-fiction clients. Please forward resume and cover letter to deborah@alphaediting.com.

A Message to our Visitors

A-1 Editing Service, together with its staff of experienced and professional editors, has been editing manuscripts since 1998 and has helped hundreds of authors prepare their writing for publication, whether through self-publication or through traditional agents and/or publishers. Our clients generally rave about their editor in charge’s attention to detail, responsiveness, and professionalism, and while we do reserve the right to decline a manuscript we believe contains offensive material as outlined in our What We Do Guide, we have turned down only three such documents in the past eleven years, based on objectionable material.

Unfortunately, a few years ago, we rejected an author's manuscript for the reason stated above and learned that, as a result, negative information about A-1 was posted to a website. When confronted with a request to offer our side of the story, the website host refused us the opportunity to offer our side of the story in order to refute the client’s claims and explain the true facts of the matter. However, thanks to our loyal clients―both new and old who returned to us with their second, third, or fourth novel―our business has continued to grow and prosper, and we are carrying on our unflagging commitment to providing all our authors with the best editing services available in a highly professional, exacting, and ethical manner.

We welcome any questions you may have about the above prior to entrusting us with your precious manuscript, and and look forward to working with you.
